Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders
Main Article Content
Abstract
The placenta accrete spectrum, known before as morbidly adherent placenta refers to the varieties of adherence and invasiveness of the placenta into the uterine wall during pregnancy, including placenta increta, placenta percreta, and placenta accreta. Due to life-threatening bleeding, maternal mortality and morbidity can occur. The outcome differs across the placenta accrete spectrum, and women with placenta increta and percreta have the most morbidity and mortality risk. The reported prevalence of PAS differs between countries, the reason for this variation is still unclear. It occurs in 3.6 % of women diagnosed with clinical placenta previa without a history of caesarean section. The incidence of PAS has increased recently due to an increase in caesarean section rate worldwide. The article describes the case of a woman diagnosed with placenta accreta spectrum in Zawia Central Hospital and the clinical course of her birth.
